This is a Weekend plus 90-day program. The Weekend is at Christ the King retreat center in Citrus Heights. It begins Friday evening and ends Sunday afternoon around 4 pm. You are provided lodging, five meals (Saturday; Sunday: breakfast and lunch only). Linens and towels are furnished. You are required to stay on the retreat grounds during the entire Weekend and to fully participate in all sessions. You will hear 13 talks from couples who were at the misery level in their marriage and were able to climb out of it -- some who had been in misery for many years. The couples will present their stories and how they used the tools of Retrouvaille to rediscover each other on a new mature emotional level. Retrouvaille will provide you a communication tool that has been taught for many years and has been extremely effective. You will learn to use that tool in the privacy of your room with your spouse. There is no problem-sharing or problem-solving on the Weekend. There is no group sharing unless you want to share. It is all about learning to communicate again -- and hopefully return your marriage back to the way it was in the beginning -- but now with a deeper and more meaningful relationship with each other. Many couples come on Friday night with a lot of apprehension, but most leave on Sunday with a powerful feeling of hope and a new perspective on their marriage.
After the Weekend there are six follow-up sessions that we refer to as "Post Sessions." In those sessions topics that were talked about during the Weekend are more fully developed and you have additional opportunities to experience what the talks were about. These are very important to the entire Retrouvaille program and are considered an integral part of the program. Anyone who registers for the program is expected to attend all or at least most of the Post Sessions.
The initial registration fee (non-refundable) is to guarantee a room and to ensure your commitment to attend. We have limited spaces so we need commitments. Retrouvaille receives no financial support outside what is donated by the attendees. No one who works in Retrouvaille receives any compensation except reimbursement for travel expenses (if that is necessary). Retrouvaille must pay for all the rooms and all the administrative costs related to the Weekend and the follow-up sessions. To cover those expenses, on Sunday we ask for a donation of around $750 to help cover all our expenses - for the Weekend and the follow-up sessions, including an effort to cover expenses for those who cannot afford to attend. It is a clear policy of Retrouvaille: we do not turn anyone down for financial reasons. For that reason we need other couples to help pick up the tab - hence the amount requested. The donation is given anonymously. We expect everyone to donate something, even if they can't afford the requested amount. We even accept installments. We need this support to keep the program alive. For most people, donating requires some sacrifice (maybe doing without some entertainment etc.) in order support the program. We expect no one to get themselves in a financial bind, but with a little imagination most people can make a reasonable contribution. Most people find that the benefits that Retrouvaille makes to a marriage, and to a family, warrant support of the program.
You can pay your registration fee while registering, using PayPal or a credit card. If you decide not to create a PayPal account then click on "Don't have PayPal account?" Under "Choose a way to pay" click on "Debit or Credit card" Clear any filled-in fields and enter your own card info. Finish by clicking on the orange PayPal button at the bottom. If you prefer to pay by check, please remit it to the address below.
We hope we have addressed your questions. If you have any other questions, feel free to let us know.
Thank you for taking this big step to look at your marriage. That is half the battle.
Sincerely in Christ,
Jerry and Toni Hicks
